- Hay For Horses
Horse Medicine
Last week two beautiful horses showed up at my house. When I first saw them, I thought I was hallucinating. I got home late and when I pulled up in front of my houses, my brain simply could not compute the giant white horse standing before me. I rolled down my window and looked him in the eyes, an unearthly shade of blue. then noticed he had a companion. The second horse, a bay, hadn't been visible at first in the dark. Equal parts confounded, enchanted, and so very tired, I figured they'd be gone in the morning like the many stray cows that wander the streets of small village where I live. Satisfied by this logic, I headed inside and fell fast sleep.
I'd all but forgotten about them until I was interrupted the following morning by a neighbor knocking on my door to ask if she could lead them into the paddock on my property. She explained that they'd been out for days and no one seemed to know who they belonged to. I agreed and went to fill some troughs with water.
Fast forward a week and a half later and the owners are still nowhere to be found. I've put out notices everywhere I can think to and have even enlisted the help of the local livestock inspector, all to no avail. But the truth is, I'm in love with them. And even if the owners showed up, it'd be hard to say goodbye now. At this point it seems to be the general consensus that they were indeed abandoned and that no one is coming for them. No one, that is, but me.
Normally, horses in this situation get sold by the county at auction or sent a shelter where, depending on their age and health, they may be put down or eventually rehabilitated and adopted. But long story short, I'm keeping them, at least for now. It's a major plot twist in my life and on the farm, but it feels oddly right, not to mention downright magical.
The older bay is gentle as can be and very sweet. But the white horse, has absolutely enchanted me. In a way, he feels like my soulmate in horse form. However, as anyone who's had them will tell you, horses cost money. Money which I hadn't exactly accounted for, considering that I didn't realize I'd be feeding two horses this winter. So I'm having a sale to raise funds for hay and supplies to keep them comfortable and well-nourished this season and beyond. From now through Wednesday I'm offering 20% off site-wide.
I've also created an option on that will allow you to donate additional funds if you feel called to do so. You can find that here. If you'd like to donate and it's easier to send money via Venmo or PayPal you can find me @Sophia-Rose-1 and [email protected] respectively. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for your generosity.
